My Testimony

Hello! I am Lawrence, welcome to my testimony page.
In this short essay, I want to tell you a little bit about myself, how I became a Christian, and what it means to be a Christian.

I owe my beginnings to my parents as they brought me into an atmosphere of great warmth and love, for the centre of our little home was the Lord Jesus Christ.

At four and a half years old I started Sunday School and the infants class where we drew pictures, sung choruses and heard the Bible stories of Jesus’ wonderful miracles.

Every year a Scottish evangelist would come along and take the Sunday school. He did great quizzes, taught us new songs and told enthralling stories based around a Bible truth. He would always close his meeting with a simple prayer for us to learn:

Into my heart, into my heart, Into my heart Lord Jesus,

Come in to stay, take sin away,Come into my heart Lord Jesus.

After many such yearly visits, I made that prayer my own inviting the Lord Jesus Christ to be my Saviour. Life continued, but now I was a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, and learning more and more of the Bible.

One day, several years later, I went to watch a family friend being baptised. The message preached that night pierced into my soul and challenged me to show my obedience and love to Christ by being baptised.

That night, with a deeply convicted heart, I confessed to the Lord and resolved to go forth in faith. I was baptised two weeks later by immersion, in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost.

Some time afterwards, having spent many Sundays watching and listening to others, I felt the call to come into fellowship with the Assembly. But, what of the years between then and now?

I can truthfully say, that I have been a poor Christian. Many times I have let the Lord down badly. But the wonder of it, is that the Lord has never denied me. When I have been wandering, He has been watching, He has got me on a piece of elastic, and I cannot break the bond that now holds us together.

Through the years, I have begun to see, the truth about my heart and the potential there is for me to think very wrong thoughts. I am discovering the truth that "the thoughts of man are only evil continually". Let me tell you - I need a saviour! I cannot get to heaven by works or thoughts, no matter how good they may be. I need changing, and that is what the Lord Jesus Christ alone offers me.

In Christ, I have a friend who sticks closer than a brother; a high priest who intercedes for me before the Father in Heaven; a new, living relationship with God; the power and presence of the Holy Spirit to remind me of the wonder of Christ, and to help me live for His glory.

As we said right at the beginning of this website - Christianity is about having a relationship with a living Saviour. I have told you briefly about mine.

Now, How about yours?
